Stories from our Guests
We were at a concert in the Portland Test Rose Garden’s outdoor amphitheater when a fellow concert attendee mentioned the Britt Festival to us. I believe their exact word were “if you love the outdoor amphitheater, you must go down to Jacksonville and check out the Britt.” They were most certainly correct! That evening we visited the Britt Festival website and found several concerts with feature performers we would love to see! Decisions, decisions between Chicago, Diana Ross, Pat Benatar or Steely Dan. (there were many more concerts to choose from, but we are fans of classic rock)
We were flexible in our plans, so we contacted Country House Inns Jacksonville to see if they had room availability during any of the concerts they were interested in. Within an hour or two, they called us back with good news. Based on room and ticket availability, they were able to help us narrow down our concert selection to two. I had a preference between the two and said “Let’s Book It!” The concierge took care of the rest.
We arrived at Wine Country Inn and got checked-in to our suite at the McCully House. What a neat place! It’s a historical building right in the center of downtown Jacksonville, a quaint small town where everything but the vehicles seems to have been stopped in time. Our room was well appointed, spacious and beautifully designed. All of the restaurants and shops were right outside our front door. A comfortable stroll to enjoy the town. We were delighted to learn that the amphitheater was only a few blocks away, but uphill. Our hosts graciously delivered us to the concert so that we would not need worry about parking, and after we could comfortably strolled back down the hill back to our suite.
The acoustics of the concert were amazing! It’s a large outdoor amphitheater with plenty of lawn space to sprawl out on blankets and lawn chairs alike. Many people brought coolers with snacks, pillows and other comfort items. We had a “rockin good time” with other concert goers of similar age and interests. We met so many nice people and enjoyed every minute of the experience. When we shared that we were staying at McCully house, there may have been a touch of envy in some of our peers. We had lucked out and gotten the last available room for that concert.
After the concert we toddled down the hill into downtown and enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Bella Union, right along our walk back to the McCully House. Great food, great atmosphere, great pricing. All around highly recommended.
We retired to our suite, enjoyed the most peculiar bubbling soaking tub with spa products provided, then cuddled up in front of an impressive gas fireplace. I’ve never seen one look so much like a wood-burning fireplace! The town seemed to put itself to bed and fall asleep as the sun set at nearly 10pm. Traffic died down and a quiet tranquility took over the warm summer evening.
The next morning we packed up around 10AM and ventured out to C Street Bistro to put the Breakfast Cards that came with our room to use. I had the most amazing breakfast of fresh Pacific Northwest Smoked Salmon, tomato, avocado, poached eggs and decadent sauce served on a croissant with a side salad. A true Northwest breakfast. He had chipped beef on toast – “what!” I thought, but I admit I had a bite and Oh My!, the sliced beef jerky in their miracle sauce over fresh sourdough was to die for!
This whole trip was planned and arranged by the wonderful staff of Country House Inns Jacksonville McCully House Inn. I can’t thank them enough for the reservations, tickets, transportation recommendations and certificates for exceptional meals. They really went above and beyond. All of this, and the room rate was at a discount. I just couldn’t believe it.
I’d recommend this experience to anyone interested in a summer concert series / get away. It was affordable and an enjoyable experience all around.
Thank you McCully House Inn Concierge! Outstanding Job.
